Yasamine June

MAY 6 - 22, 2016

Yasamine June is known to many for her sublime hand-drawn and screen-printed live music posters, and as the artist behind some of your favorite album covers. She is also the co-owner of Oakland-based record label, Royal Oakie. Half/seen is a solo exhibition of her fine art work and a selection of music posters, presented at IDIO Gallery from May 6th to May 22nd, 2016.

Half/seen spans mediums and genres, featuring diverse works ranging from color film photography to drawings, paintings and polaroids. The work shares a fascination with fleeting moments of profound beauty, epiphany, and pure bliss—half seen, half-felt, and half remembered, they are rendered whole through the prism of light available in the known universe.

Yasamine June was born and raised in Mount Washington, a wooded enclave in the San Rafael Hills northeast of downtown Los Angeles. She began painting and drawing at a very young age, later taking an interest in photography. It was after moving to the San Francisco Bay Area that she began creating limited edition live music posters. Designed entirely by hand and usually screen-printed, these posters are as much influenced by the Belle Epoch as the Big Five. She has created works for artists such as Beach House, Beck, Bonnie Prince Billy, Dead Meadow, Deep Ellum, and many more. She now lives in Oakland, CA, where she spends her days working on creative projects of all shapes and sizes.
